There are no words to truly describe Adam Samulski. Kind, thoughtful, generous, and optimistic are a few, but my dad is not my hero simply because he is all of these things. My dad is my hero because despite living with HD every day, he still puts me first and makes sure that I have everything I need to be the best version of myself. Every person who meets him immediately recognizes his positivity, persistence, and determination to find a cure for HD. He participates in clinical trials whenever he is eligible, educates our local community about HD, and does it all with a big, cheesy smile on his face. Life didn’t give him the greatest hand of cards, but he has still managed to beat all the odds and serve as an inspiration to not only myself, but also everyone around me. HD or not, my dad is my hero, and I can only hope to be half as compassionate as he is.
